**Huawei Announces New Supercomputers and AI Chips to Challenge NVIDIA**

Huawei has unveiled plans for new iterations of its SuperPoD AI clusters, designed to enable ultra-high-speed interconnection between its AI chips. The company’s Vice Chairman, Eric Xu, announced that the Atlas 950 SuperPoD, supporting 8,192 Ascend chips, is set for release in Q4 2026. Its successor, the Atlas 960, boasting an impressive 15,488 Ascend chips, will follow in Q4 2027.

These next-generation SuperPoDs promise industry-leading performance across several critical metrics, including the number of NPUs, total computing power, memory capacity, and interconnect bandwidth.

### Introducing the SuperClusters

In addition to the SuperPoDs, Huawei revealed two large-scale computing clusters: the Atlas 950 SuperCluster and the Atlas 960 SuperCluster. These clusters integrate multiple SuperPoDs to deliver staggering processing capabilities — over 500,000 Ascend processors in the Atlas 950 SuperCluster and more than one million Ascend processors in the Atlas 960 SuperCluster.

According to Huawei, these SuperClusters will surpass all currently available computing clusters, providing enormous computing power to accelerate AI advancements rapidly.

### Ascend AI Chips: A Direct Challenge to NVIDIA

Huawei is also gearing up to launch four new Ascend AI chips over the next three years, signaling a direct challenge to NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI chip market. The upcoming Ascend 950 chip will feature Huawei’s proprietary high-bandwidth memory, marking a significant breakthrough for China’s semiconductor industry.

This development highlights Huawei’s long-term vision and determination to compete with global technology giants on the semiconductor front.

### Technological Breakthrough: In-House High-Bandwidth Memory

Notably, Huawei has announced that it now produces its own high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a technology previously dominated by South Korea’s SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. By adopting a one-year release cycle for its AI chips, Huawei aims to double compute power with every new iteration.

Huawei’s announcement comes at a strategic moment, just ahead of a high-profile meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, underscoring the company’s intent to make a significant impact on the global tech stage.
