In its first phase, Jewar Airport will feature a single runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Over time, the airport is planned to expand across four phases, eventually accommodating up to 70 million passengers per year.

“We are trying to push up the inauguration so that we can see it happen very soon. Right now, the date that we have decided is October 30, when we will have the inauguration and within 45 days, we can see the operations also start,” the minister told reporters during an event at Hindon airport in neighbouring Ghaziabad on Wednesday, according to PTI.

Located 75 km from Delhi, Jewar Airport will become the second international airport in the National Capital Region (NCR), after Indira Gandhi International Airport. This development will significantly improve air connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and help ease congestion in Delhi.

Initial flight operations are expected to connect Jewar with at least 10 major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Additionally, the airport is set to become a major cargo and logistics hub, greatly enhancing trade efficiency in the region.

Equipped with a CAT-III B Instrument Landing System, Jewar Airport will allow safe landings even in low-visibility conditions, ensuring better operational reliability.

Connectivity has been a central focus of the project. The airport will be linked by six major roads, along with a rapid rail-cum-metro line and pod taxi services, providing seamless and convenient access for travellers.

Developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Uttar Pradesh government and Zurich Airport International AG, Jewar Airport is expected to generate around one lakh direct and indirect jobs. It is also likely to spur significant real estate development and infrastructure growth in the surrounding region.
