Apple’s latest offering, the iPhone Air, has successfully passed a rigorous durability test conducted by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything, living up to Apple’s claim of it being the most durable iPhone ever made.
During the series of tests, the iPhone Air demonstrated impressive resilience. The device flexed under pressure but remarkably returned to its original flat shape without sustaining damage. The front screen also stood out for its scratch resistance, attributable to Apple’s second-generation Ceramic Shield cover glass technology.
**Scratch Resistance**
In scratch tests, JerryRigEverything typically observes glass scratching around level 5 or 6 on the Mohs scale. However, the new Ceramic Shield 2 cover featured on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air showed significant improvements. The screen showed no marks at level 6 and only minor, light scratches at level 7, confirming Apple’s claim that the updated Ceramic Shield is up to three times more scratch-resistant than its predecessor.
**Force Resistance**
When it came to bending force, the iPhone Air endured more than 98kg of point force. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to bend the phone by hand, the tester resorted to a mechanical device. Even then, the iPhone Air held strong until reaching this high force threshold.
Notably, even when the front glass eventually shattered, the back glass remained intact, and the touchscreen digitizer continued to function perfectly. This further supports Apple’s assertion that the iPhone Air is its toughest model to date.
