Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar helped lead the Volunteers to a commanding 56-24 victory over the UAB Blazers in Week 4 of college football action. This bounce-back win came just a week after Aguilar and the Volunteers suffered a thrilling 44-41 overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs at Rocky Top.
Ahead of the game against UAB, Aguilar’s long-term girlfriend, Rylan Moffitt, shared snippets on her Instagram stories showcasing a custom-made button featuring her boyfriend’s face. She captioned the post: “@buttonsbyab thank you,” highlighting her support and pride.
Rylan Moffitt started her college basketball career at Daytona State during the 2022-2023 season before transferring to Appalachian State. She averaged 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 61 games for the Mountaineers. Following that, she transferred to UNC Greensboro, where she currently plays. Moffitt has been a constant presence at Tennessee games, showing strong support for Aguilar. The couple often posts pictures together on Instagram before and after Vols games, highlighting their close bond.
### Joey Aguilar’s Performance and Praise from Urban Meyer
With Rylan cheering him on at Neyland Stadium, Joey Aguilar went 15-of-22 for 218 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception in the win against UAB. This performance continues his impressive start to the season at Rocky Top.
Aguilar’s standout game this season came in Week 3 against Georgia, despite the loss. He completed 24-of-36 passes for 371 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also rushing for a touchdown.
During a recent episode of “The Triple Option” podcast, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer lavished praise on Aguilar. Meyer admitted he was proven wrong about a trade involving Nico Iamaleava, the quarterback Aguilar essentially replaced at Tennessee.
“UCLA makes the worst trade in the history of trades and Tennessee lands this guy (Aguilar),” Meyer said. “I don’t know this guy (Aguilar), but he must be a monster. I was the first guy, when Nico left, I said, D-U-N, done. It’s over in Knoxville. How do you lose a quarterback with that talent? I was dead wrong. Dead wrong. That kid played his—I know they lost, but he played his ass off, man.”
After switching places with wantaway quarterback Nico Iamaleava, Joey Aguilar has quickly emerged as one of the top quarterback talents in the country. So far this season, Aguilar has completed 63-of-95 passes for 906 yards, throwing nine touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 26 yards and one touchdown.
With his strong performances and growing confidence, Aguilar looks poised to continue his impressive rise at Tennessee this season.
