**Bangladesh Cricket Board Elections Scheduled for October 6; Tamim Iqbal Raises Concerns**

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections are slated for October 6, announced today by the country’s election commission. In this upcoming election, the general members body—known as the councilors—will elect 23 out of the 25 board directors. From this group, a BCB president will be chosen to serve a four-year term.
However, ahead of the elections, former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has voiced concerns, accusing the current BCB president Nazmul Hassan of interfering in the election process.
### Accusations from Tamim Iqbal
Tamim, who recently confirmed his intention to contest in the elections, held a press conference in Dhaka alongside other candidates and former BCB directors. He criticized Nazmul Hassan for unilaterally extending the deadline for nomination submissions.
“The election commission has been in charge since their appointment. Yet, the BCB president extended the nomination deadline twice,” Tamim remarked, highlighting that a letter dated September 18, signed by Nazmul but not issued by the BCB’s chief executive, announced the extension.
### “Selection” Instead of an Election?
Further intensifying his concerns, Tamim alleged that the BCB’s constitution was violated when representatives from eight divisions and 64 districts were nominated by an ad-hoc committee rather than elected.
“This process does not align with the BCB’s constitution and resembles a ‘selection’ rather than a genuine election,” he stated. “If elections proceed in this manner, they cease to be elections. Elections must be open and fair for everyone.”
### Call for Fairness and Transparency
Tamim urged the relevant authorities to honor the original councilors’ list and uphold a transparent election process. “I hope the councilors declared on September 17 remain unchanged. There should be no last-minute modifications,” he emphasized.
As part of the election timetable, a draft voter list is set to be published on September 22, followed by the final list on September 25.
### Breakdown of the BCB Election Process
The BCB elections will be conducted across three categories:
– **Category 1:** Ten directors will be elected representing divisions and districts throughout the country.
– **Category 2:** Twelve directors will be chosen from representatives of Dhaka clubs.
– **Category 3:** One director will be elected by former cricketers, national captains, security forces, and councilors nominated by the National Sports Council.
Additionally, the Bangladesh government will appoint two directors to the board.
As the election date draws near, all eyes remain on the BCB to ensure a fair and transparent process that respects the spirit of cricket governance in Bangladesh.
