Bangladesh faces a potential setback ahead of their crucial Super Four clash against India, as captain Litton Das has reportedly suffered a back strain during a training session at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22.
The injury occurred when Litton experienced discomfort on the left side of his waist while attempting a square cut in the nets. Following the incident, he withdrew from the practice session and was immediately assessed by the team physiotherapist, Bayzid ul Islam.
### Medical Assessment Pending
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official shared with Cricbuzz, “We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call.” While Litton did not show any major signs of discomfort after the incident, his potential absence would undoubtedly be a significant blow to Bangladesh’s campaign.
### Leadership Void for Bangladesh
If Litton is ruled out of the upcoming matches, Bangladesh could face a leadership crisis. The BCB has yet to name a deputy captain for the tournament, leaving uncertainty over who might lead the team in Litton’s absence.
### Litton Das’s Performance So Far
Despite some inconsistency with the bat, Litton has shown glimpses of his match-winning capabilities this tournament. He scored a crucial 59 against Hong Kong in Bangladesh’s opener, followed by 28 against Sri Lanka. However, his form dipped with a nine against Afghanistan and 23 in the subsequent game against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh began their Super Four campaign on a positive note with a convincing victory over Sri Lanka, but the injury concern over their captain now clouds their upcoming fixtures.
Fans and cricket enthusiasts will be watching closely as the medical updates unfold, hoping that Litton Das recovers in time to lead his side against India.
