Magnum Ice Cream Company, which is set to go public this November, has announced an exciting partnership with Chilean start-up NotCo. The collaboration aims to leverage NotCo’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to reformulate existing ice cream products and develop new, healthier options.
**A Focus on Sustainability and Consumer Preferences**
Zbigniew Lewicki, Chief Research, Design and Innovation Officer at Magnum Ice Cream Company, explained that this initiative is part of their broader commitment to creating more sustainable products while managing rising commodity costs. “Consumers want to indulge but are also looking for smaller portions and more sustainable products,” Lewicki noted, emphasizing the growing demand for ice cream that balances indulgence with health and environmental considerations.
By working with NotCo’s AI, Magnum plans to explore ways to reduce calorie content and introduce new plant-based ice cream varieties, aligning with evolving consumer tastes and sustainability goals.
**NotCo’s AI Technology Driving Industry Innovation**
NotCo’s AI technology has already been embraced by several major consumer goods companies, including brands under Magnum’s umbrella such as Ben & Jerry’s and Cornetto. CEO Matias Muchnick shared that many large food manufacturers are turning to their AI platform to swiftly adapt products in response to changing consumer preferences and broader movements like the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.
The technology is particularly helpful in addressing challenges such as increasing raw ingredient costs—cocoa, for example—by identifying alternative formulations without compromising quality.
**Expanding AI Applications in Food Product Development**
Beyond ice cream, NotCo’s AI is also helping companies reduce artificial colors, decrease sugar content, and discover novel flavors. The start-up has previously collaborated with Kraft Heinz to reinvent classic products like plant-based macaroni and cheese, cheese singles, and mayonnaise.
This partnership highlights a growing trend among major food companies to harness AI for product reformulation, healthy innovation, and sustainability, signaling a significant shift in how food products are developed and brought to market.
