Popular reality show **Bigg Boss 19**, hosted by Salman Khan, is reportedly facing legal trouble over the alleged unauthorized use of two songs.
**Legal Notice from Phonographic Performance Limited**
Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), India’s oldest licensing organization, has sent a legal notice to the producers of Bigg Boss 19. The notice alleges copyright infringement for using the songs *Chikni Chameli* from *Agneepath* and *Dhat Tere Ki* from *Gori Tere Pyaar Mein* in Episode 11 without obtaining the necessary permissions.
**Demand for Damages and License Fees**
PPL has demanded ₹2 crore in damages and license fees from the show’s makers for this alleged violation. The notice, served by advocate Hiten Ajay Wasan on September 19, accuses Endemol Shine India—the production company behind Bigg Boss 19—of using these sound recordings without securing a public performance license.
According to a source from PPL’s legal team, both songs are licensed to Sony Music Entertainment India, which is among over 450 music labels whose public performance rights are managed by PPL.
**Cease and Desist Notice Issued**
In addition to the financial demands, PPL has issued a cease and desist notice to the makers of Bigg Boss 19, ordering them to stop using these recordings without authorization. The organization argues that Endemol Shine India failed to obtain a license as mandated under Section 30 of the Copyright Act, 1957, which they claim amounts to “willful infringement.”
**Current Status**
Despite these ongoing legal proceedings, Bigg Boss 19 continues to air on Colors TV at 10:30 PM and is available for streaming on JioHotstar at 9:00 PM daily.
This case underscores the importance of obtaining proper licensing for music use in television productions to avoid copyright violations and costly legal repercussions.
