Team India’s ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah has called former cricketer Mohammad Kaif’s assessment about his usage by captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav’s current role in the Asia Cup 2025 accurate. By retweeting Kaif’s tweet on X, Bumrah responded with, “Inaccurate before inaccurate again.”
Kaif had pointed out that under Rohit’s captaincy, Bumrah generally bowls in overs 1, 13, 17, and 19. In contrast, under Suryakumar’s leadership in the Asia Cup, Bumrah bowled a three-over spell at the start of the innings. Bumrah often bowls three overs upfront, leaving him with just one over towards the end of the innings. To avoid injury, the 35-year-old pacer prefers to bowl when his body is warmed up.
This bowling pattern, Kaif suggested, could provide some relief to opposing batters, especially in the remaining 14 overs, which might become a concern for India when facing stronger teams in the upcoming World Cup.
Despite some struggles, Bumrah has still performed crucially for the Indian team at key stages. He remains the second-highest wicket-taker for the Men in Blue in the tournament, with five wickets in four matches.
In India’s recent 41-run victory over Bangladesh, Bumrah was impressive from the start of his spell. After leaking over 40 runs against Pakistan, he returned with figures of 4-0-18-2 to help defend a modest total of 168 runs. His two wickets were pivotal in restricting Bangladesh to 127 runs.
India’s batting was largely powered by Abhishek Sharma, who scored a blistering 75 off just 37 deliveries, continuing his ominous form throughout the tournament. Although India struggled to finish as strongly as fans might have hoped, the team maintained control throughout the match.
Bangladesh started the innings promisingly but lost regular wickets, with Kuldeep Yadav emerging as the pick of the bowlers, taking three crucial wickets.
Looking ahead, the winner of the upcoming game between Pakistan and Bangladesh will face India in the Asia Cup final.
India will be hoping their bowling strategy and key players like Bumrah and Kuldeep continue to perform as they chase another Asia Cup title.
