Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s instruction via stump mic seemingly helped secure the wicket of Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto on day 1 of the 2nd Test in Kanpur.

In a video that surfaced on social media, Pant can be heard asking off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to pitch the ball up. The strategy paid off as Shanto was trapped lbw. The dismissal happened in the 29th over of the innings when the southpaw blocked the fourth delivery fairly comfortably. However, on the very next ball, which came onto the batter, Shanto missed completely, and the umpire raised his finger following a loud appeal from the Indian team.

Despite the Bangladesh captain opting for a DRS review, it proved unsuccessful, confirming his dismissal.

### Day 1 in Kanpur Shortened to 35 Overs Due to Heavy Rain

Only 35 overs were possible on the first day of the 2nd Test in Kanpur as bad light and heavy rain brought a premature end to the day’s play. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first.

India’s Akash Deep made early inroads by dismissing Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan. Ravichandran Ashwin claimed the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto, continuing his impressive form.

### Series Context and Records

Bangladesh currently trail the two-Test series 0-1, having lost the opening game in Chennai by a massive 280 runs. In that match, Ashwin also broke several records, including surpassing Courtney Walsh’s tally of 519 wickets to become one of the highest wicket-takers in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and his team remain at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings as the series progresses.
