Some big crossover sets were among the seven 2026 expansions revealed at MagicCon 2025. Wizards of the Coast kicked off one of the biggest weekends of the year for Magic: The Gathering in grand fashion. MagicCon: Atlanta featured a special preview panel announcing what’s next for the long-running card game.
There are a whopping seven expansions set to release in 2026, including some major crossovers. These crossovers include another collaboration with Marvel, a journey into the world of *The Hobbit*, and venturing where no one has gone before with *Star Trek*.
The Wizards of the Coast team acknowledges that releasing seven expansions in one year is unusual and emphasizes this will not be the standard going forward. Here’s the tentative schedule for 2026:
**Lorwyn Eclipsed (January 23)**
The MTG year begins with a return to a fan-favorite setting. *Lorwyn Eclipsed* marks a comeback to the realm of Lorwyn. Expect to see some familiar creatures as Planeswalkers team up with Strixhaven students for a grander look at this strange and enchanting world.
**Untitled Universes Beyond (TBA)**
The second MTG set of 2026 remains a mystery for now. The curtain will be lifted at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 10, revealing details about this expansion.
**Secrets of Strixhaven (April 2026)**
After journeying with Strixhaven students in *Lorwyn Eclipsed*, the April set will take players back to Strixhaven University itself. This expansion explores life both on and off campus, as graduates venture out into the real world and explore their new lives.
**Marvel Super Heroes (June 2026)**
Following the recent success of the *Marvel’s Spider-Man* set, Wizards of the Coast continues its collaboration with Marvel. This upcoming expansion will explore other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe, expanding the crossover storylines and card possibilities.
**The Hobbit (August 2026)**
It’s been over two years since Magic: The Gathering’s last crossover with *The Lord of the Rings*. On Friday, Wizards of the Coast announced a new set based on *The Hobbit*, featuring iconic characters like Bilbo Baggins and the fearsome dragon Smaug. This set promises to bring more of Tolkien’s rich world into MTG.
**Reality Fracture (October 2026)**
Wizards of the Coast is teasing a major narrative shift with *Reality Fracture*. A mysterious villain threatens to shake the world of Magic to its core. For now, details are scarce, but expect more information as the October release window approaches.
**Star Trek (November 2026)**
Earlier this summer, a fake story claimed a Magic: The Gathering *Star Trek* set was a giant SEO stunt. As Commander Riker would say, that story was fiction—at least, at the time. However, there was some truth behind the rumor.
To close out 2026, Wizards of the Coast officially announced a *Star Trek* set. It will feature characters, stories, and ships from across the many eras of *Star Trek*. More information will be shared as the November release draws closer.
All of these sets will be available for both Magic: The Gathering’s physical card game and MTG Arena. Pre-orders for *Lorwyn Eclipsed* are available now at local retailers and on Amazon. Images for the *Lorwyn Eclipsed* set are going live today on the official Magic: The Gathering website.
