**Russia and China Fail to Delay UN Nuclear Sanctions on Iran**
A resolution intended to delay the United Nations from imposing nuclear “snapback” sanctions on Iran was voted on at the United Nations Security Council but ultimately failed to pass.
The resolution, proposed by Russia and China, sought to postpone the reimposition of sanctions on Iran by six months. However, it did not gain the necessary support from Security Council members.
China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, addressed delegates following the vote on the resolution. The event took place during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.
