**Indore District Court Delivers Verdict After 14 Years in ASI Assault Case**
*Indore (Madhya Pradesh):* After nearly 14 years, a district court in Indore has delivered its verdict in a long-pending case involving the assault of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) during Navratri festivities.
On October 3, 2011, at around 10:30 pm, two youths from Khati Pura, Suraj and Pawan Patel (35), arrived at the Siddheshwar Nav Garba Pandal in Gaurinagar in an inebriated state. The duo confronted ASI BR Sisodia, who was on duty at the venue, questioning his presence.
When the ASI asked them to leave peacefully, Suraj and Pawan hurled abuses and grabbed him by the collar. Despite the ASI’s attempts to calm them, the men turned violent, threw him to the ground, and assaulted him, causing injuries to his face, ears, and limbs.
Upon receiving a wireless call, Cobra Squad personnel and local police, along with bystanders, rushed to the spot and managed to overpower the two assailants. A case was registered against Suraj and Pawan under Sections 294, 353, 332, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
During the trial, Suraj passed away, leaving Pawan as the sole accused. The district court found Pawan Patel guilty under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty). He was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 500.
Assistant District Public Prosecutor Eshu Yadav represented the state in the case. The complainant, ASI BR Sisodia, who later retired, passed away in 2021.
This verdict brings closure to a case that spanned over a decade, underscoring the judicial system’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting public servants on duty.
