Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the luxury carmaker owned by India’s Tata Motors, is gradually restarting its manufacturing operations following a cyberattack earlier this month. The British company operates three factories that together produce approximately 1,000 cars daily. However, due to the cyberattack, JLR has suffered losses of around £50 million ($68 million) per week, and many of its 33,000 employees were asked to stay home during the disruption.

According to three senior sources from the cyber insurance market, JLR had not finalized a cyber insurance deal with Lockton prior to the attack. This leaves the company potentially uninsured for this incident, raising concerns about financial recovery and risk management.
In response, British Business Minister Peter Kyle and Industry Minister Chris McDonald visited JLR to assess the impact of the attack and discuss strategies for resuming production as swiftly and safely as possible.

JLR, known for iconic models such as the Range Rover and Defender, contributes significantly to the UK economy. Its production supports approximately 104,000 jobs across the nation’s supply chains. The Unite trade union has expressed concerns about possible job losses stemming from the disruption and has urged the government to provide support to help affected companies remain solvent.
A recent survey by S&P Global revealed a downturn in the UK manufacturing sector’s output, with some factories citing JLR’s shutdown as a direct factor impacting activity within the automotive supply chain.
