Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s autobiography, *I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles* (Rupa Publications). Drawing inspiration from his own nationwide podcast, *Mann Ki Baat*, PM Modi described his foreword as Meloni’s equivalent of *Mann Ki Baat*. The book, already a bestseller in Europe, is set to be released in India soon.
In his foreword, PM Modi expressed deep respect, friendship, and admiration for Giorgia Meloni. He called it a great honor to contribute to the volume, praising Meloni as a patriot and an outstanding contemporary leader. Modi highlighted that Meloni’s life and leadership remind us of timeless truths and predicted that the book would be well received in India as a refreshing story of remarkable leadership and patriotism.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Giorgia Meloni epitomizes true leadership. Drawing parallels between her values and Indian traditions, Modi noted Meloni’s strong belief in safeguarding political and cultural heritage while engaging globally on various issues. This commitment, he said, resonates closely with Indian values and culture.
Reflecting on his own experiences interacting with world leaders over the past 11 years, PM Modi remarked that their journeys often transcend personal narratives to speak to something larger. It is within this broader context that he framed his foreword to Meloni’s memoir.
*I Am Giorgia* was first published in 2021 when Meloni was still an opposition leader. However, following her historic appointment as Italy’s first woman prime minister in 2022, the book gained renewed prominence. The US edition, released in June 2025, featured a foreword by Donald Trump Jr., who praised Meloni’s working-class roots and described her rise as a “patriotic tidal wave.”
The memoir has become a bestseller not only in Italy but also across parts of Europe. It traces Meloni’s personal and political journey, shedding light on the travails—and sometimes trauma—of womanhood, a recurring theme in her pre-election speeches. Her rallying cry, *“I am Giorgia, I am a woman, I am Italian, and I am Christian. You can’t take that away from me,”* resonates strongly throughout the narrative.
Written with compassion, the memoir reveals the challenges Meloni faced during her campaign, including attacks focused on her being a woman, an unmarried mother, and her commitment to political activity even during pregnancy.
Although the Indian edition of *I Am Giorgia* is yet to be released, it is expected to attract significant attention—not only for Meloni’s inspiring personal story but also as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two leaders.
