**Mumbai: Measures to Improve Management at BMC Hospitals Underway**
In response to rising complaints about mismanagement at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s HBT Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari and Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle, Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar (Mumbai North West) has directed officials to expedite the opening of Siddharth and Oshiwara Hospitals.
### Review Meeting and Infrastructure Plans
During a recent review meeting held at Cooper Hospital, Waikar instructed officials to set up a cath lab at the Trauma Hospital to enhance cardiac care facilities. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma, who was present at the meeting, briefed the MP on patient care standards and the day-to-day hospital operations.
### New Medical Facilities and Appointments
Dr. Sharma announced that chemotherapy services at Cooper Hospital will be launched by December–January, funded through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Meanwhile, dialysis services at the Trauma Hospital will soon operate in two shifts to meet increased patient demand.
In a significant administrative move, Dr. Pravin Bangar, Deputy Dean of KEM Hospital, has been appointed to oversee operations at the Trauma Hospital, aiming to improve service delivery and management.
### Focus on Recruitment and Tender Processes
MP Waikar also called for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in contractual recruitments. He urged that tender processes for contracts nearing expiration begin at least three months in advance to avoid operational disruptions.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of setting surgical targets for doctors and ensuring that scheduled operations are conducted on time to reduce patient wait times.
### Operational Enhancements and Patient Care
Hospital administration confirmed that recruitment of doctors is ongoing. In addition, efforts are underway to increase NICU and ICU bed capacity to better accommodate critical patients. The chemotherapy facilities are on track to become operational soon.
Officials also assured the public that medicine stocks will be maintained adequately. Measures to improve hospital cleanliness and reduce rodent issues have been prioritized to enhance the overall patient environment.
### Staff Training and Patient Interaction
To improve communication and patient experience, hospital staff have undergone training sessions focusing on communication skills. Similar training sessions are planned shortly for doctors and security personnel, aimed at fostering better staff-patient interactions.
These comprehensive steps reflect a concerted effort by the BMC and associated stakeholders to address ongoing concerns and improve healthcare services at key municipal hospitals in Mumbai.
