A lockdown was recently lifted at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) in Burlington County, New Jersey, following reports of gunshots heard during a training exercise. The lockdown was confirmed by a source speaking with NBC News.
JB MDL announced the lockdown on their Facebook page on Tuesday, September 30, around 11 a.m. Shlomo Schorr, the Legislative Director of Agudath Israel of America’s New Jersey office, also alerted the public on X, advising that all personnel at the base seek shelter immediately.
Shortly before 11:45 a.m., officials announced the lockdown had been lifted.
According to a high-ranking law enforcement source who spoke with NBC News reporter Jonathan Dienst, a training exercise was in progress at the base when witnesses heard gunshots. Concerned individuals called 911, which led to the lockdown as a safety precaution.
