**SC Issues Notice to Assam Government Over ‘Muslim Takeover’ AI-Generated Video**

The Supreme Court has issued a notice concerning a plea that demands the removal of an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video released by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Assam unit. The controversial video, which was shared on the social media platform X, allegedly spreads fear about Muslim domination in Assam if the BJP loses the upcoming elections.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard the case and subsequently issued notices to the Centre, the Assam government, and X (formerly Twitter).
**Concerns Over the Video**
The plea was filed by journalist Qurban Ali and Senior Advocate Anjana Prakash, who are pushing for action against hate speech across India. They argued that the video, posted on September 15, 2025, portrays a “grossly false narrative” of Muslims taking over Assam if the BJP is not in power.
According to the petitioners, the AI-generated video depicts Muslims occupying various significant locations in Assam, including tea estates, Guwahati Airport, Guwahati Accolad, Assam Ranghar, Guwahati Stadium, Rang Ghar, and Guwahati town. It further shows illegal Muslim migrants acquiring government land and falsely claims that Muslims constitute 90% of the state’s population.
**What the Plea States**
The plea highlights that the video features visibly Muslim individuals (wearing skullcaps and burqas) overtaking these key sites, promoting misinformation and stoking communal fears. The petitioners argue that the BJP’s Assam unit, being a political entity, has an obligation to uphold the Constitution’s secular values. However, the video posted from its official handle “openly targets, vilifies, and demonizes Muslims,” thereby hurting communal harmony.
**Legal Action Sought**
The petitioners have sought the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) or initiation of contempt proceedings against those responsible for creating and distributing the video.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 28, 2025, to further examine the matter.
