GOG has made a name for itself over the years as one of the bastions of game preservation, in any form. While the Resident Evil games are widely available, GOG made a concerted effort to ensure that the original titles remain playable in their authentic forms.
Interestingly, securing the rights to offer Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 on GOG’s platform was not without its challenges. Marcin Paczynski, GOG’s senior business development manager, recently shared with The Game Business the initial bewilderment from Capcom regarding the demand for the original Resident Evil games.
Despite the hurdles, the collaboration ultimately proved successful. The games sold well on GOG and received very high review ratings from users. For Paczynski, this outcome was a strong validation of the effort to preserve and provide access to classic gaming experiences.
