CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) — Spooky season doesn’t mean the price tag on your costume, candy, or party plans has to be scary. According to data from the National Retail Federation, the cost of Halloween is expected to reach a record high this year, with shoppers projected to spend at least $11 more per person.
No tricks, just treats at Trader Joe’s in Clovis, where store captain Vahe Armen is helping customers celebrate the holiday affordably.
“One of the things we focus on as a company, our culture is to bring in great value items for our customers,” Armen said.
With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, if you’re considering hosting a gathering, Trader Joe’s may be your one-stop shop. Let’s start with the bites and booze. Trader Joe’s is known for its wine and cheese selection, and according to the ABC Price Tracker, many of their offerings are priced below the national and state averages.
“We have so many people who come in and buy products for their charcuterie boards,” Armen explained. “You start with the fruit, the pepper jelly. I can’t tell you how much we sell—it’s pallets of it during the holidays.”
To create eye-catching centerpieces or a seasonal arrangement, or to add a pop of color to someone’s “boo” basket, Trader Joe’s offers plenty of options. When it comes to decorating, it’s always best to start early. But since Halloween is fast approaching, you can always use an assortment of pumpkins on the table or front porch.
“We have roughly 400 products that come in from October through the end of the year, and these are just seasonal products,” Armen shared.
These fall favorites aren’t limited to cereal bars and coffee—there are also individually wrapped gummies and chocolates perfect for sharing. Another way to save on sweets is to buy candy in bulk or mix premium candy with less expensive pieces.
Looking for a cost-effective costume? Try mixing and matching pieces from previous years or visit a thrift shop. You might find something unique that can be used more than once.
This Halloween, enjoy the spooky fun without the scary prices!
