As spotted by ConversationDue8475 on Reddit, Lana Del Rey has registered a song with ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) that shares its name with IO Interactive’s new James Bond game: *First Light*.
While this isn’t exactly a smoking gun—since Lana has an album coming out and this could simply be an unrelated song with the same title—it’s an intriguing coincidence. Lana Del Rey would be a perfect fit for a Bond theme, especially in the smoky Nancy Sinatra style. She could just as easily deliver a brassier, Shirley Bassey-type track.
It would also be a form of justice considering she wrote a theme for *Spectre* that ultimately went unused in favor of Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On the Wall.” (The song Lana wrote was eventually released under the name “24,” with *Spectre* being the 24th Bond movie.)
After watching 30 minutes of *007 First Light* gameplay, our own Tyler Wilde was surprised by how impressive the shooting mechanics are. While gunplay in IO Interactive’s *Hitman* games has traditionally taken a backseat—usually triggered only when something’s gone wrong—in *First Light*, the reckless young James Bond going loud, complete with Max Payne-style slow motion, actually seems like a lot of fun.
Imagine Lana Del Rey singing over the top of James Bond leaping sideways while firing his Walther PPK in slow motion—it’s hard to think of anything that would make the experience better.
*007 First Light* is set to release on March 27 of next year.
