After making his big league debut in September 2017, starting pitcher Walker Buehler went on to spend seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Buehler enjoyed great success in LA, earning two All-Star selections and winning the World Series twice.
Right after winning his second ring in 2024, Buehler entered free agency and eventually signed a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Boston Red Sox. At the time, many believed Boston’s offer was the best available to Buehler, making his decision to leave understandable.
“The Dodgers reportedly offered Walker Buehler a $20 million contract this past offseason. Buehler went on to sign with the Red Sox for $21 million 👀,” one social media post read.
Since moving on, however, Buehler has faced challenges. He finished the 2025 season with a 4.96 ERA, a noticeable decline compared to his previous performances.
In response, many fans have criticized Buehler’s choice to chase an extra million dollars, suggesting it may be a decision he now regrets.
“😂😂😂 Bet he regrets that sh*t now 😂😂😂,” one fan wrote.
“Well, he should have been loyal. It would have been better for his career,” commented another.
“Then he was waived by Boston, picked up by Philly, eliminated by guess who? LA in the NLDS & now will be watching them on TV play in the World Series where he could’ve easily been part of another world championship team. Oh well,” added a third.
“He threw it away for just $1 million more!! 🤦🏻♀️” said another fan.
“For $1 mil? Bruh, no way,” responded someone else.
“He probably gave up another ring on his finger for a million,” another user shared.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ starting rotation has continued to flourish despite letting Buehler go. When the Dodgers won the World Series in 2024, their outstanding bullpen handled many high-leverage moments in crucial postseason games, especially as some of their best starters were sidelined with injuries at the worst times.
This year, it’s been a different story. LA’s four best starting pitchers—Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani—have all been outstanding. After making it to the World Series following a dominant sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS, the Dodgers are confident and ready to defend their title and go back-to-back champions.
