How to Defeat Rintaro in Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Weaknesses and Counters
The fourth promotional battle in Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be against Rintaro. When it comes to promotional battles, being prepared and knowing what Pokémon your opponent will use is the easiest way to secure a victory. Let’s take a closer look at Rintaro’s team and the best counters to bring.
Rintaro’s Team
Rintaro’s team consists of three Pokémon, all at Level 24:
- Simisage (Grass-type) – Weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type moves; strong against Ground, Rock, and Water types.
- Simipour (Water-type) – Weak to Grass and Electric-type moves; strong against Fire, Ground, and Rock types.
- Simisear (Fire-type) – Weak to Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves; strong against Bug, Grass, Ice, and Steel types.
Best Counters to Rintaro’s Team
If you started your journey with Tepig, you likely have a Pignite evolved by now, which makes it an excellent choice to take on Simisage. If not, any Pokémon that is not Ground, Rock, or Water type and knows the move Ember should work well, provided it is leveled sufficiently.
One good early-game option is Fletchling, which can learn Ember and can be caught easily in Wild Zone 1. You can find the exact location on our interactive map.
For a hard counter against Simisage, Houndour is highly effective, as it can withstand attacks from Simisage with ease.
When facing Simipour, a Flaaffy evolved from Mareep works perfectly. If you’re looking for a shiny Mareep, you can find one in Wild Zone 1 by completing a specific side mission.
Finally, to tackle Simisear, Wartortle is a solid choice. By now, you might also have a Binacle, which becomes a great option once it’s properly leveled.
