Far-left radicals protested earlier on Thursday at the Alameda Coast Guard base. While the media characterized the demonstration as a mostly peaceful immigration protest, it was, in fact, an illegal immigration protest that was not always peaceful.
Later that same day, the White House announced it would not launch an immigration surge to San Francisco. This decision came after tech CEOs and politicians convinced the President that San Francisco was making significant efforts to reduce crime.
However, late in the evening, a potentially dangerous incident occurred. A man driving a U-Haul van attempted to ram into the Coast Guard base. Coast Guard personnel issued multiple commands for the driver to stop. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated the van backwards at high speed, directly aiming at the security personnel. In response, the Coast Guard fired at the vehicle, wounding the driver and injuring a bystander.
According to KTUV Fox, the driver was allegedly not part of the earlier protest. At the time of the shooting, most protesters had already left the area. Despite the seriousness of the event, mainstream media largely downplayed or ignored the incident.
**Homeland Security Report**
At approximately 10:00 p.m. (PDT) on Thursday, Coast Guard security personnel standing watch on Coast Guard Island observed a vehicle driving erratically and attempting to weaponize the vehicle to ram into Coast Guard Base Alameda. U.S. Coast Guard personnel issued multiple verbal commands to stop the vehicle. The driver failed to comply and suddenly put the vehicle in reverse, accelerating backwards at a high rate of speed directly toward the personnel.
When the vehicle’s actions posed an immediate threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of defensive live fire.
No Coast Guard personnel were injured during the incident. Two civilians were injured and are expected to survive. The truck driver was wounded in the stomach and is being held for a mental health evaluation. A bystander was struck by a fragment, treated at a local hospital, and released. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency for this investigation, coordinating with other law enforcement partners.
This clearly appeared to be a serious attack.
Earlier on Thursday morning, there had been some tense moments during the protest. The mostly peaceful radicals surrounded a Border Patrol truck, prompting authorities to deploy tear gas into the crowd. Two people claimed injury, and a judge expressed concern about the use of tear gas.
Once President Trump called off the surge of agents to San Francisco, the potentially violent protest became more subdued.
KTUV Fox was on the scene and provided coverage of the shooting, offering a description consistent with other reports.
Given the circumstances, this incident may have been a deliberate terror attack intended to intimidate the Coast Guard personnel. If so, it signals an alarming rise in dangerous activity from left-leaning radical groups.
