WWE has seen several wrestlers make surprising returns to the promotion over the last few years. Notably, both CM Punk and his wife, AJ Lee, made comebacks after it once seemed impossible they would ever step back into the WWE ring.
One wrestler fans are eagerly awaiting is the People’s Champion, The Rock. The Great One wrestled his first match in years at WrestleMania XL but has only made a handful of appearances since then. Most recently, he was seen on screen at Elimination Chamber 2025, where he appeared to join forces with John Cena. However, that storyline didn’t develop further, and The Rock has yet to make an official return to WWE programming.
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently discussed The Rock’s situation on an episode of *Writing with Russo* on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge. Russo expressed his thoughts on why The Rock might be hesitant to come back, citing the current state of WWE’s product and its declining ratings.
“I’m sorry, if I’m Rock and I’m looking at this show, why would I want to be on it? Like, I really am lowering myself, and I really am lowering my standards. Why would I want to be on this show? Ratings are down every week. They book it just like you said; nobody means anything. If I’m Rock, why would I want to be written into this?” Russo said.
Many fans had anticipated The Rock would appear at WrestleMania 41 to support John Cena in capturing the title, but that did not come to fruition. Speculation continues around the possibility that The Rock might be revealed as John Cena’s final opponent in WWE. This much-anticipated matchup could potentially take place at *Saturday Night’s Main Event* in December, marking a memorable final clash between the two legends.
