CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins recently corrected Rep. Jasmine Crockett amid a heated discussion on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Americans.

“Costs are exploding and people need relief,” Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) emphasized during the conversation. She added, “If the President can take a break from knocking down the East Wing and ballroom planning, I’d love to show him our district where many of his supporters need his help.”

However, the framing of Crockett’s comments was later found to be inaccurate. According to Leavitt’s full response, she was specifically referring to renovation work—not the President’s broader governing agenda. Despite this clarification, the initial tweet spread widely across social media platforms and cable news segments before multiple outlets challenged its accuracy.

The East Wing ballroom renovation project itself has become a lightning rod for criticism. Many Democrats argue that it symbolizes misplaced priorities during a government shutdown that is now approaching historic length. The White House has stated that the expansion, which carries an estimated price tag of $300 million, is being entirely financed by private donors.

Adding to the controversy, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) has called on all 2028 Democratic presidential hopefuls to “tear down” the ballroom if elected.

So far, Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s office has not commented on the CNN interview or indicated whether she plans to correct her remarks. During the CNN interview, the Texas Democrat also said she had “no idea” when the shutdown might end. The Post has reached out to Crockett for further comment.
