Tall, black steel safes are scattered around the Fort Lyndon map in **Battlefield 6: REDSEC**, holding some tantalizing goodies behind their big locks. Unlocking these safes is straightforward—provided you or one of your teammates made an important choice before the match began.
### How to Unlock Safes in Battlefield 6: REDSEC
To unlock a safe in Battlefield 6: REDSEC, you or someone on your team needs to be an **Engineer**. Once confirmed, use the **Repair Tool** on the safe’s lock for about five seconds. Fulfill both of these requirements, and the safe will pop open.
Inside, you can expect to find a weapon or two, a grenade, and maybe some Superior Intel. While the loot isn’t as abundant as what you’d find in a Weapons Cache mission gun locker, the advantage is that you don’t need to work nearly as hard to access what’s inside a REDSEC safe.
### When to Open Safes
Because the loot inside safes is somewhat limited, I recommend opening them during the **early part of a match**, particularly shortly after your first landing. Even though the quantity of gear may be small, it is often of better quality compared to what you’d typically find at your initial landing zone.
If **Weapons Cache** is available as one of your first missions, it’s a great idea to do that mission in addition to opening safes. The volume of loot in Weapons Cache missions is much higher. Although the weapons you find are usually green rarity, upgrade kits are plentiful. Plus, you have a chance to score the real prizes: Strike Packages, RPGs, and other hard-to-come-by ordnance.
### Why Always Have an Engineer on Your Team
Being able to unlock safes is just one reason to always have at least one Engineer on your team in BF6: REDSEC. Another key reason is dealing with the tanks that other teams will inevitably bring to the fight.
With an Engineer on your side, you’ll be better equipped to unlock useful gear and counter armored threats, giving your team a significant advantage on the battlefield.
