Battlefield 6: REDSEC Mode Guide
Battlefield 6 introduces a thrilling new mode called REDSEC. This free-to-play battle royale experience offers various game modes, weapon rarities, optional missions, and the classic encroaching ring of fire. Whether you’re new to REDSEC or looking to sharpen your skills, this guide covers everything you need to know, including general tips, gameplay mechanics, reviving, and more.
What is REDSEC?
REDSEC is a free-to-play battle royale mode within Battlefield 6. Players drop into a vast map where they must search for weapons, complete optional missions for better gear, and eliminate other players. All this happens while a dangerous ring of fire slowly shrinks the playable area, pushing players closer together. The match ends when only one player or team remains alive.
After selecting REDSEC, you choose from three main game versions:
- Gauntlet: Focus on completing objectives. You must finish your mission to survive, continuing to complete missions until you’re the last player or team standing.
- Duos: Classic battle royale with teams of two players. There are 50 teams participating.
- Squads: Classic battle royale with teams of four players. There are 25 teams participating.
Getting Started: What Should I Do First in REDSEC?
Your primary goal in REDSEC is simple: be the last person or team alive. Here are some basic steps to keep in mind as you start your match:
- Land in a location with zero or few other teams to avoid early combat.
- Loot crates for weapons and essential gear like grenades and airstrikes.
- Select and complete optional missions to earn powerful additional gear.
- Keep moving away from the NXC circle of fire towards the next safe zone.
- Engage other players when necessary, or avoid confrontation to survive longer.
It’s crucial to stay ahead of the shrinking ring of fire. The playable area continuously shrinks until only enough space remains for a few teams. While moving inward, prioritize looting and completing missions to improve your loadout. Be ready to fight other players or retreat if the situation calls for it.
Weapons and Gear in REDSEC
You’ll start each match armed only with a pistol and a knife. From there, the scramble to find better weapons begins. Each weapon you find comes graded on a color scale indicating its rarity and power. Here’s the hierarchy from lowest to highest:
- Common (Gray)
- Uncommon (Green)
- Rare (Blue)
- Advanced (Purple)
- Superior (Gold)
- Personal Favorite (Red)
The more attachments a weapon has, the better its performance, and the higher it ranks on this scale. Don’t rely on luck alone; you can upgrade weapons you find by scavenging or completing missions, changing their rarity from green to blue, and so forth.
Keep an eye out for weapon containers scattered around the map—they appear as crates, cases, safes, or inside vehicles. These caches provide opportunities to find or upgrade your weapons.
Choosing a weapon that suits your class is key. For instance, an Assault player won’t fare well with a sniper rifle.
What Are Red Guns?
Red guns represent your Personal Favorite weapon loadouts created and customized outside of the match in Battlefield 6’s main multiplayer mode. These weapons feature your preferred upgrades and attachments tailored to your playstyle.
Red guns can be obtained via Custom Weapon Drops found on the map. These drops look like torpedo-like devices embedded in the ground. When you interact with one, you’ll see all weapons you’ve marked as favorites, allowing you to select which upgraded weapon to deploy.
Depending on your weapon’s upgrade level, a red gun may outperform or underperform compared to high-tier purple or gold weapons found on the field.
Choosing Your Class in REDSEC
When starting REDSEC, you can select your class, each with unique tools, benefits, and weapon proficiencies, much like in standard Battlefield 6 gameplay.
For example, the Engineer begins with a blowtorch that allows you to crack open safes, increasing your chances of gaining valuable loot.
Ideally, a balanced squad will include a mix of classes to maximize the team’s effectiveness and resourcefulness.
How Does Reviving Work?
In REDSEC, when you lose all your armor and health, you fall to the ground and enter a downed state. You can crawl to a safe spot while waiting for a teammate to revive you. A timer counts down during this period; if it reaches zero, you die. Alternatively, enemies can finish you off by continuing to attack.
REDSEC offers a forgiving revive system early in the match. If you die during the first several minutes, you have a “second chance” to parachute back into the fight and rejoin your squad.
Later in the match, once “second chances” expire, dying becomes much more consequential. Players will be notified that no second chances remain. From this point on, reviving downed allies requires reaching a redeploy point, where teammates can bring you back into the game.
Keep in mind, redeploying takes time and emits a respawn alarm that warns others nearby. For detailed information on redeploying teammates, check out our comprehensive guide on this mechanic.
What Are Missions?
REDSEC provides players with optional missions every few minutes. Completing a mission results in airdropped rewards directly at your location—these can include better weapons, powerful equipment like airstrikes, or keycards that grant access to vehicles such as tanks.
Missions typically involve tasks such as traveling to specific locations, destroying objectives, carrying items, or transmitting data. You might need to move to another area to complete the mission fully.
Once you accept a mission, on-screen icons will guide you to the objectives, along with brief task descriptions. Some missions will require engaging other players in PvP combat, adding an extra layer of challenge.
