Some cities have fully embraced renewable energy and electric public transportation as part of their commitment to a greener future. However, discovering that a city might not actually have full control over its own public property was likely not part of the plan.

This unexpected reality came to light when Ruter, the public transportation authority for Oslo, Norway, decided to conduct security tests on its new fleet of Chinese electric buses. Earlier this year, approximately 300 electric buses from the Chinese company Yutong were introduced to Norway. The arrival was hailed by China Buses as a “core breakthrough” for Chinese brands’ expansion into global markets.

However, the testing revealed significant security flaws, raising concerns about control and safety in public transportation systems that rely on foreign technology.
