Civilization has received a significant update this week, bringing exciting changes to the gameplay experience. The general update revamps sea gameplay, including enhancements to combat, resource gathering and spawning, as well as navigation on water tiles.
In addition to the update, Firaxis Games is offering players a free expansion pack for a limited time. The **Tides of Power Collection** launched today and is available to claim for free until January 2026. After that date, the expansion will be priced at $30.
Firaxis also released details about **Civilization 7 Update 1.3**, which delivers a massive overhaul to water gameplay in Civ 7. The update redesigns how water tiles and their resources function, while improving navigation mechanics. Coastal tiles have been heavily revamped to provide more rewarding outputs. The update introduces the Privateer unit, accessible to all civilizations, which can attack, defend, and plunder trade routes early in the game.
These changes set the stage perfectly for the new content included in the Tides of Power Collection. The expansion brings Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, into the game. Players can also start with the Republic of Pirates civilization.
Additionally, the update introduces Sayyida al Hurra and the Ottomans as new playable leaders, joining Iceland and Tonga. Four new Wonders have also been added to enrich the gameplay experience.
If you already own Civilization 7, this expansion is free to claim on your platform of choice until January 5, 2026. Firaxis’s generous offer is their way of thanking the community for their continued support and dedication to Civ 7. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enhance your Civilization experience with these exciting new features and content!
