NVIDIA has released the latest recommended stable driver for Linux, version 580.105.08.

### What Is a Recommended Driver According to NVIDIA?

NVIDIA defines a recommended driver as one that “meets the quality levels applied to Windows drivers that pass testing in Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL), therefore providing the same attention to driver reliability, robustness, and performance for non-Windows operating systems (e.g., Linux).”

### What’s New in Version 580.105.08?

This release includes several important fixes and a new environment variable for CUDA applications:

– **New Environment Variable:**
Added `CUDA_DISABLE_PERF_BOOST`, which allows disabling the default behavior of boosting the GPU to a higher power state when running CUDA applications. Setting this variable to `1` will disable the boost.

– **Bug Fixes and Improvements:**
– Fixed an issue causing the `vfio-pci` module to soft lockup after powering off a VM with passed-through NVIDIA GPUs.
– Resolved a recent regression that prevented HDMI FRL from working after hot unplugging and replugging a display.
– Fixed a bug causing the game *Rage 2* to crash when loading the game menu.
– Fixed a bug causing *Metro Exodus EE* to crash.
– Corrected a bug that allowed VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) to be enabled on some modes where it isn’t actually supported, which previously led to a black screen.
– Fixed an issue causing some HDMI displays to remain blank after unplugging and re-plugging the display.
– Addressed a problem that prevented large resolution or high refresh rate modes, such as 7680x2160p@240Hz, from being available when using HDMI FRL or DisplayPort.
