MSNBC was the most-watched network for coverage of the off-year elections on Tuesday, drawing 3.04 million total viewers. Fox News followed closely with 2.85 million viewers, while CNN attracted 1.78 million.

In the key 25-54 demographic, CNN led with an average of 574,000 viewers. MSNBC came in second with 490,000, and Fox News third with 448,000. This evening marked a rare victory for MSNBC over Fox News, which has dominated primetime viewership for years and had won both total viewers and the 25-54 demo just last week.

According to the network, this election night coverage was the first time MSNBC topped Fox News in total viewers and the demo since August 22, 2024, during the Democratic National Convention.

Looking ahead, MSNBC is preparing to rebrand as MS Now on November 15. This change coincides with Comcast spinning off its cable networks into a new company called Versant. With NBC News no longer a sister network, MSNBC took a new approach for these elections by sending its own reporters to states with major races, including New Jersey, Virginia, New York, California, and Minnesota.
