A Wonder Lake man died after being hit by a vehicle Thursday, marking the third pedestrian death in the area this week.
Jerry Williams, 65, was struck by an SUV at around 6 p.m. Thursday along Barnard Mill Road, west of Summit Drive, in unincorporated Wonder Lake. The SUV, heading east, hit Williams, who was then thrown into a ditch on the south side of the road.
Williams was initially taken to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry before being transferred to Advocate Condell in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old woman from Genoa City, Wisconsin, along with her passengers—a man and four children—were not injured. According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
This tragic incident is the third pedestrian fatality in the region this week. On Monday evening, a Beach Park man died after being hit while walking along Sheridan Road in Zion. The following day, an elderly man from Lincolnshire was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along Milwaukee Avenue at approximately 5:18 p.m.
