AKRON, Ohio – Tavari Johnson led Akron to a commanding 104-69 victory over Princeton on Saturday, finishing with 21 points and six assists for the Zips (2-0).
Amani Lyles contributed 16 points, shooting an efficient 4 of 5 from the field and 8 for 9 from the free-throw line, along with six rebounds. Eric Mahaffey added 14 points, going 5 of 8 from the field, including 2 of 5 from three-point range.
For Princeton (0-1), Jackson Hicke led the Tigers with 15 points. Dalen Davis scored 11 points, while Jack Stanton chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Akron dominated early, taking a 47-27 lead into halftime. Lyles paced the Zips with 12 first-half points. In the second half, Akron pulled away with a decisive 12-0 run, extending their lead from 22 to 34 points. The Zips outscored Princeton by 15 points in the final period, with Johnson leading the charge by adding 10 of his team-high 21 points after halftime.
