The quest for a 17th WIAA state boys soccer title in program history came up just short for Marquette University High School as the Hilltoppers fell 1-0 to Madison West on Nov. 8 at Uihlein Soccer Park.

After a scoreless first half, the go-ahead goal came in the 75th minute from Regents junior forward Louie Rowe, assisted by junior defender Jonah Wallace.

This marked Marquette’s 20th appearance in the WIAA state title game and their 24th appearance overall at the WIAA state tournament. Madison West was making its fifth appearance in the state title game and 16th appearance at the WIAA state tournament overall.

The title for the Regents is the fourth in program history and their first since 1988.

Marquette earned the right to play in the Nov. 8 final by defeating Hudson in the Division 1 semifinal on Nov. 6. The match ended in a 3-3 draw after 100 minutes of regulation and overtime, with Marquette prevailing 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
