Cal Storylines
The Bears face their second straight AP Top 25 opponent, coming off a 31-21 home loss to then-No. 15 Virginia last week. Cal has now dropped 14 consecutive games to Top 25 opponents, dating back to a 21-17 victory over No. 21 Oregon during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
This marks the first time this season Cal has lost back-to-back games. The Bears need just one win in their final three games to secure bowl eligibility.
The availability of injured junior linebacker Cade Uluave remains uncertain. Uluave is second in the ACC with 81 tackles.
Junior running back Kendrick Raphael continues to be a key player, ranking eighth in the ACC with 557 rushing yards and tied for second with 11 touchdowns—six of which came in the past two weeks.
Louisville Storylines
The Cardinals have risen to No. 15 in this week’s inaugural College Football Playoff rankings, which will determine the 12 teams qualifying for the expanded postseason.
Louisville boasts a 24-21 road victory over then-No. 2 Miami and their only loss is a narrow 30-27 overtime defeat to No. 12 Virginia.
Senior quarterback Miller Moss leads Louisville’s offense. Moss spent four years at USC and notably came off the bench as a freshman in USC’s 24-14 loss to Cal in the 2021 season finale. Over his past four games, Moss has thrown eight touchdown passes and rushed for five touchdowns.
The Cardinals will be without injured running back Isaac Brown, who ranks second in the ACC with 782 rushing yards and leads the nation with an impressive 8.6 yards per carry average. His backup, Keyjuan Brown (no relation), has contributed 321 yards at 6.2 yards per attempt.
