Police Pursuit in West Deptford Ends in Deadly Crash
A police chase in West Deptford resulted in a fatal collision late Sunday afternoon, killing one person and injuring two others. The driver involved in the crash, a citizen of the United Kingdom, has been charged with homicide.
The incident began around 5:30 p.m. when authorities received a report of two men appearing intoxicated inside a white car at the PNS Gas and Food Mart on Hessian Avenue, according to Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns. Upon police arrival, the vehicle sped away, prompting officers to pursue in a marked police car.
During the chase, the white car crossed into the oncoming lane and T-boned a second vehicle at the intersection with Red Bank Avenue. The crash resulted in the death of the driver of the second vehicle and injuries to two passengers, Prosecutor Johns confirmed.
Steve Hall, 28, from the United Kingdom, was charged with one count of second-degree death by auto and two counts of fourth-degree assault by auto. The Attorney General’s Office is now investigating the fatality in accordance with state law regarding deaths during police encounters.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims in the second vehicle. However, the mother of one passenger told NBC Philadelphia that her daughter had hired the deceased driver through Uber.
This incident remains under ongoing investigation by the Attorney General’s Office.
