This week marks a significant moment for gaming in South Korea as the country’s biggest game conference, G-Star 2025, kicked off in grand fashion. One of the highlights came with the reveal of an unexpected and exciting development for PlayStation’s Horizon franchise.
Publisher NCSoft is teaming up with Horizon developer Guerrilla Games to craft an MMORPG set in the game’s universe titled *Horizon Steel Frontiers*. This new title will take players back to the Deadlands, combining the series’ signature action and hunting elements with traditional MMORPG mechanics.
*Horizon Steel Frontiers* promises an expansion of the game’s combat system, customizable characters, and broader worlds to explore. Players can expect to encounter more of the titanic mechanical creatures that have made the Horizon universe so captivating. Some of these encounters will culminate in large-scale battles, featuring multiple hunters cooperating in intense fights.
This isn’t the first time PlayStation has sought to expand the Horizon world beyond its mainline games. Previous expansions of the franchise include a VR experience and even a LEGO-themed game. However, the partnership with NCSoft is particularly fitting, as the Korea-based publisher is highly experienced in developing and publishing MMORPGs. NCSoft is widely known for managing games like ArenaNet’s *Guild Wars 2*.
At G-Star 2025, NCSoft showcased a robust portfolio that, besides *Horizon Steel Frontiers*, included titles like *AION 2*, *Cinder City*, and *Limit Breakers Zero*.
*Horizon Steel Frontiers* is being developed for both PC (playable through NCSoft’s PURPLE platform) and mobile devices. While there is currently no official word on the release date, this is undoubtedly a game that fans and industry watchers will be keeping a close eye on.
