Valve surprised many this week with the sudden reveal of several new hardware products, including the highly anticipated return of the Steam Machine. This brand has been associated with several SteamOS-focused PCs and gaming devices over the years, but this time it comes back as a mini PC designed specifically for living room gaming on big-screen TVs. The new Steam Machine is expected to launch sometime in 2026.
### New Steam Machine and Hardware Lineup
Valve announced the new Steam Machine alongside a collection of new hardware, such as the VR/AR Steam Frame and an updated Steam Controller. This new Steam Machine serves as a refresh of the mini PCs originally released in 2015, now featuring SteamOS 3 with all-new hardware under the hood.
### Steam Machine Specifications
The base model of the Steam Machine is equipped with a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU featuring 6 cores and 12 threads, capable of clock speeds up to 4.8 GHz and a 30W thermal design power (TDP). It also houses a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 GPU with 28 Compute Units (CUs), running at a maximum sustained clock of 2.45 GHz and a 110W TDP.
For memory, the system packs 16GB of DDR5 RAM alongside 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Storage options include two models: one with a 512GB NVMe SSD and another with a 2TB NVMe SSD. Both versions come equipped with a high-speed microSD card reader slot.
Valve claims the new Steam Machine is about six times more powerful than the average Steam Deck, enabling it to run most games smoothly at reasonable settings.
### Steam Machine Verified Certification
In addition to hardware, Valve has introduced a “Steam Machine Verified” tag, similar to the “Steam Deck Verified” certification, which allows developers to communicate to players whether their games run optimally on the new hardware.
