The 3D format gained significant popularity among Indian audiences with the release of *Avatar* (2009). This trend was further boosted by Vikram Bhatt’s *Haunted* (2011), which starred Mimoh Chakraborty and Tia Bajpai. The film emerged as a sleeper hit thanks to its compelling horror elements, intriguing plot, execution, memorable music, and of course, the innovative 3D experience.
Now, Vikram Bhatt is back with *Haunted: Ghosts Of The Past*. The film marks the return of Mimoh Chakraborty, this time joined by Chetna Pande and other new faces. The teaser for the movie was released on September 3, with an original plan to hit cinemas on November 21. However, the release has been postponed to next year.
Bollywood Hungama had an exclusive conversation with Vikram Bhatt to understand the reason behind the delay.
### Exclusive: *Haunted: Ghosts Of The Past* Postponed; New Release Set for January 30, 2026
Vikram Bhatt shared, “My mother was very unwell since January. Sadly, she passed away in September. Due to this personal tragedy, I couldn’t devote the needed time to complete the VFX work for the film.”
He added, “When we released the teaser, fans of the *Haunted* series expressed their desire for more scenes shot in real locations. We have always valued good advice, so we listened and decided to reshoot certain sequences in actual locations. These new shots have now been incorporated into the film.”
Vikram further explained, “We had generated many VFX plates for the backgrounds initially, but they didn’t look realistic enough. That’s why we went back and filmed a few scenes over 10-12 days on real locations.”
### Addressing AI Speculation
Amid some speculation on social media that AI was used in *Haunted: Ghosts Of The Past*, Vikram Bhatt clarified, “There was absolutely no AI used; it’s all VFX. The film is set in a strange, new world which I wanted to visually create according to the story’s requirements. However, since audiences won’t understand this new world until they watch the film, some assumed the VFX was poorly done (laughs). But that’s not the case—it’s just a different world we built.”
### Trailer Release Date
When asked about the trailer release, Vikram confirmed, “The trailer will be out next month.”
### Songs and the 3D Experience
Fans of the first *Haunted* film fondly remember its memorable soundtrack. So, what can we expect from the sequel’s music?
Vikram replied with optimism, “Hopefully, we will be able to match the soundtrack of the first part, if not surpass it (smiles).”
And of course, no discussion about the *Haunted* series is complete without mentioning its pioneering 3D element. Before signing off, Vikram made a bold claim: “*Haunted: Ghosts Of The Past* will have the best 3D experience to date in Indian cinema. I just saw some of the 3D shots and was jumping with joy!”
