For decades, the term “crazy cat lady” has been thrown around as an insult. Unfortunately, it’s sad to say that we haven’t progressed much when it comes to the purrfectly hurtful and pawsitively untrue stereotypes aimed at cat lovers.
Recently, a female stewardess found herself in an uncomfortable situation while on a flight with her male superior. During some forced small talk about children, she explained that she didn’t want kids. According to her boss, this was absolutely unheard of. He insisted that she would end up lonely in her old age, with only her cats to keep her company.
As if that’s an insult at all! Many of us would be more than happy to be surrounded by the love of cats as we grow older.
Thankfully, she managed to get out of the situation. Now, she’s seriously considering reporting her superior to HR—and if you ask us, she absolutely should. We guarantee that if she were a dog lover, he never would have made such a comment.
It’s baffling why society assumes that all cat lovers will end up sad, lonely, and living in messy houses filled with dozens of cats. Yes, cats are fantastic companions. And while it’s true that some people accumulate more cats by taking in strays, that certainly doesn’t mean every cat owner will have more litter boxes than floor space.
We sincerely hope she reports him. Perhaps his punishment should include learning about the incredible love cats can give. Then, maybe he’ll realize how wrong he was—and even pick up some compassion along the way.
