Reader discretion is advised. A Man on the Inside season 2 kicks off with Julie and Charles being hired by Wheeler College President Jack Berenger after somebody steals his laptop. Berenger soon reveals that his laptop is worth $400 million as it contains details about a donation from a billionaire alumnus of the college. Thus, Berenger and Holly hire Julie and Charles to help him figure out the identity of the thief who stole the laptop and threatened to leak his private emails, potentially derailing the donation. However, in the season finale, Charles accuses Jack of stealing his own laptop, but that quickly backfires in his face when Benjamin Cole steps into the office and claims responsibility. While everything seems to be wrapped up rather neatly in a bow, Charles can’t shake the feeling that he’s missing something when he has an epiphany. He then proceeds to confront Holly and discovers that Benjamin has actually taken the fall for her. He learns that the entire faculty is involved in the theft, with Holly as the ringleader of the group. Holly stole the laptop to prevent billionaire Brad Vinick from changing Wheeler College After a series of tricky but mysterious clues in A Man on the Inside season 2, Charles (Ted Danson) accuses Jack Berenger, the president of Wheeler College, of stealing his own laptop. He believes Jack did so after learning about billionaire Brad Vinnick’s plans to reform the college. Brad was set to donate $400 million to the college, but at the same time, he was planning to shut down the humanities department and lay off staff in the process. However, while Charles is on the right path regarding motive, his suspect turns out to be wrong. Just after he accuses Jack, Benjamin Cole, the English professor, walks in and confesses. He reveals that he overheard Vinick’s plans for the college and stole the laptop, as well as made the threats, in an attempt to scare Jack into not accepting the donation, in A Man on the Inside season 2. Cole then resigns to retire on his own terms, rather than being ousted by Brad. Then Holly, Julie, and Charles confront Brad. It nearly works, and it seems that the case has come to a close, but then a conversation with his daughter leads to an epiphany for Charles. He realizes that Cole didn’t act alone and confronts Holly, whom he believes is actually behind the actions. Holly confesses to being the ringleader behind the entire theft and blackmail conspiracy, with the entire faculty involved in A Man on the Inside season 2. She reveals that the faculty considered the humanities department at Wheeler to be an important part of the college, especially as Brad’s Project Aurora focused solely on tech and business. Thus, they couldn’t sacrifice the department, a foundation of Wheeler College, and they fought in an attempt to save it.
