President Donald Trump and other officials are denouncing a band of Democratic members of Congress who delivered a new warning directed to troops. In a video posted on X, six Democrats called on the military and intelligence community earlier this week to “refuse illegal orders” that might be issued by the Trump administration. The lawmakers included Sens. Elissa Slotkin (Mich.) and Mark Kelly (Ariz.), and Reps. Jason Crow (Colo.), Chrissy Houlahan (Pa.), Chris Deluzio (Pa.) and Maggie Goodlander (N. H.) all of whom have military or intelligence backgrounds. “We know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now,” the coalition said in the video. “Americans trust their military, but that trust is at risk. This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens like us.” They added: “Right now, the threats to our Constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear. You must refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that violate the law or our Constitution.” The lawmakers did not specify which orders to the military could be considered illegal. Service members in the U. S. military are required to follow lawful directives under the Uniform Code of Military Justice though they are not required to obey unlawful orders. As the video went viral on social media, Trump condemned the six Democrats on Thursday. “This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country,” Trump said of the video in a post on Truth Social, before adding, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???” His response came as members of his administration slammed the video earlier this week, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth writing on X on Tuesday, “Stage 4 TDS,” referring to the phrase “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller accused the lawmakers on Wednesday of engaging “in rebellion against their Commander-in-Chief.” “Do not underestimate how dangerously radicalized the Democrat party has become,” Miller continued in a post on X. Miller later claimed “These lawmakers should honestly resign in disgrace and never return to public office again for even daring to think, let alone to say these words and to say them proudly,” Miller said in fiery remarks. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche also joined Fox News late Wednesday, arguing for a federal investigation into the Democrats featured in the video. He maintained that Trump and administration officials are ordering “nothing illegal.” “I felt like I was watching a propaganda video by one of our enemies trying to recruit the military to become spies,” Blanche said, going on to ask whether “what they did is a crime.” During an appearance S. cities. “We’re standing by our troops, our service members who are often put in very difficult positions, and Donald Trump has put them in very difficult positions and has alluded to putting them in even more difficult positions in the months and years ahead,” Crow said.
