Pant, standing in as captain for Shubman Gill, urged Kuldeep not to take so much time before starting an over, given he had already been warned twice. With the Indian captain introducing spin for the first time on Day 2, he brought on Kuldeep to bowl the 88th over of the innings. The on-field umpire had warned the left-arm wrist-spinner twice and a third warning would have resulted in a five-run penalty for Team India. According to the rules, a new bowler must begin an over within 60 seconds. In a video shared on Star Sports, Pant was heard saying on Stump mic: “Yaar 30 second ka timer hai. Ghar pe khel rahe ho kya? Ek ball daal jaldi. Yaar Kuldeep, dono baar warning le li. Poora ek over thodi na chahiye. Mazak bana rakha hai Test cricket ko. Field mere ko karne de. Kuldeep is still the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 23-4-72-3, dismissing Ryan Rickelton (35), Tristan Stubbs (49) and Wiaan Mulder (13).
