Embracer divests Arc Games and Cryptic Studios, keeps Remnant franchise publishing rights

embracer divests arc games and cryptic studios keeps remnant franchise publishing rights feature

The Embracer Group has announced a deal to divest from Arc Games and Cryptic Studios, which work on games such as Star Trek Online and Neverwinter in addition to Arc publishing several other games. The deal will see ownership of these studios and most of their works transferred to a group known as Project Golden Arc Inc. in a deal valued at around $30 million. Embracer will retain the IP rights for the Remnant series. Embracer shared the details of the Arc Games and Cryptic Studios deal in a recent press release. According to the release, Project Golden Arc is composed of a number of management staff at Arc Games. With this deal Project Golden Arc will take over full management of Arc Games, Cryptic Studios, and much of the IP related to Arc Games publishing (Torchlight, Hyper Light Breaker, Chips n’ Clawz vs. the Brainoids, Star Trek Online, and Neverwinter). Embracer will retain ownership of the Remnant: From the Ashes IP and its developer, Gunfire Games, though Arc will remain listed as a co-publisher on them. Meanwhile, multiplayer title Fellowship will also be retained by Embracer, and publishing will be transferred to Coffee Stain, which is being spun off from Embracer in mid-December. It’s an interesting move for Embracer, which has arguably been digging itself out of a hole for quite a while following the fallout of a failed $2 billion deal that ultimately saw previous CEO Lars Wingefors resign from the role. Star Trek Online and Neverwinter have remained constant and modest successes for Arc Games, but Remnant has also had impressive success across two games.
