Paul VI, ranked No. 17 in the NJ.com Top 20, secured a convincing 54-37 victory over St. Augustine, led by standout performances from Toussant Malukila and Will Spross, who each scored 19 points.
Malukila was efficient in the paint, making six two-point field goals while also demonstrating accuracy at the free-throw line, shooting 7-for-10 for Paul VI (10-3). Spross contributed with a balanced offensive attack, scoring seven two-pointers and adding one three-pointer, while also making two-of-three free throws.
St. Augustine (6-7) managed just 12 points in the second half. Bryce Clark led the Hermits with 14 points, including two 3-pointers and an impressive 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Paul VI established control early with a 12-7 first quarter advantage and maintained its lead throughout the game. Isaiah Thatcher added 10 points for Paul VI, including two 3-pointers. The Eagles pulled away in the second half, outscoring St. Augustine 35-25.
The fourth quarter proved decisive as Paul VI put up 20 points to seal the victory. Zebron Bartley and Jacob Plenn each contributed eight points for St. Augustine, with Plenn connecting on two shots from beyond the arc.
