Pittsburgh Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl will not be the next general manager of the Atlanta Falcons. Instead, the Falcons are hiring Ian Cunningham, and Weidl will remain with the Steelers despite interviewing for the position.

Weidl has served as the Steelers’ assistant general manager since shortly after the 2022 NFL Draft and has been widely praised for his approach to team building across the NFL. He joined the Steelers organization after Omar Khan was promoted to general manager and plays a key role in scouting.

Khan’s expertise lies in cap management, making Weidl’s deep scouting background and familiarity with the Steelers organization particularly valuable. A native of Mt. Lebanon, Weidl returned to his hometown to help build the team, focusing primarily on strengthening the trenches first.

Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Weidl worked in Philadelphia under renowned executive Howie Roseman. His work there earned him considerable praise, ultimately making him an attractive candidate during the Steelers’ general manager search.

Now regarded as a rising general manager candidate throughout the NFL, Weidl continues to contribute significantly by scouting the upcoming NFL Draft and helping to build the Steelers’ draft board.

Pittsburgh hired Weidl in 2022 after elevating Omar Khan to general manager, following the retirement of Kevin Colbert. With his combination of scouting expertise and organizational knowledge, Weidl remains a key figure in the Steelers’ front office moving forward.
