ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WLS) — Investigators have confirmed that a woman found dead outside an Elk Grove Village hotel earlier this week was the victim of a homicide. An autopsy revealed she died from multiple “sharp force” injuries, officials announced Friday.
Her body was discovered early Wednesday near an extended-stay hotel located off Landmeier and Higgins Road. Police say she was found just after 4:15 a.m. Investigators spent much of the day processing the scene. While the Elk Grove Village police initially called the death suspicious, they have since assured the public that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
At this time, the woman’s identity has not been released, and police have not confirmed whether she was staying at the hotel. No arrests have been made so far.
Guests at nearby hotels expressed shock over the incident. Eva Wypych, who was staying at the hotel off Landmeier and Higgins Road, said, “I just freaked and I couldn’t believe it. I saw a body covered with a blanket.” She shared that she encountered the scene and investigators as soon as she stepped out for an early morning walk.
The Major Case Assistance Team responded alongside Elk Grove Village police to assist with the investigation. Investigators were also seen searching through dumpsters near the hotel and collecting multiple bags of evidence.
Hotel guests have heard various reports regarding what may have happened, but so far, officials have not released further details about the woman’s death.
“This just breaks my heart. People should love one another, care for one another,” Wypych said. “Nobody deserved that. We are all created by God, and only God could take you.”
Authorities continue to investigate the case and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
