The fatal two-vehicle crash happened early Tuesday morning on Route 20 in Charlton, according to officials. A driver was killed Tuesday morning in a crash on a highway in Charlton, prosecutors said. At about 7: 45 a. m., Charlton police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 20, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release. The highway was closed at the Charlton and Sturbridge town line due to the crash, the Charlton Fire Department said on Facebook. The driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the DA’s office said. Their identities had not been released as of Tuesday evening. Officials reportedly told 7News Boston that the crash happened after a man driving a speeding pick-up truck refused to stop for Charlton police. He then collided head-on with an SUV, killing its driver, the station reported. Detectives from Charlton police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash, according to prosecutors. Charlton police directed all questions about the crash and reported chase to the DA’s office, which did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday evening.
