**Indore Launches 100-Day Mission to Make Depalpur a Model of Cleanliness**
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav has announced that a fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed on any person found responsible if garbage is seen on the streets of Depalpur after 15 days from now. This strict measure follows an awareness phase aimed at fostering clean habits among residents.
The announcement came a day after an MoU was signed between the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Depalpur Municipal Council (DMC) to transform Depalpur into the cleanest municipal council in the district. Inspired by Indore’s remarkable achievement as India’s cleanest city for eight consecutive years, the two bodies have joined forces to replicate this success.
On Sunday, Mayor Bhargav officially launched a 100-day cleanliness mission in Depalpur. He emphasized that cleanliness should be a continuous habit rather than an occasional event, warning that strict action will follow the initial awareness campaign.
Local MLA Manoj Patel has also expressed strong support for the initiative. He announced an attractive reward of Rs 11 lakh for the cleanest ward in Depalpur and promised the distribution of 25,000 cloth bags to reduce plastic usage. Depalpur comprises 15 wards in total.
In addition to waste management, the plans include beautification projects using scrap iron and measures to handle stray cattle effectively. Currently, with a population of approximately 20,000 and a daily waste generation of almost 10 tonnes, Depalpur ranks 1710th in cleanliness among towns of similar size.
Authorities are optimistic about replicating Indore’s cleanliness model in Depalpur through a combination of public participation, strict enforcement, and incentive schemes. “Indore showed the nation the way in cleanliness. Now, Depalpur too must rise to the challenge,” said Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav.
